Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists receive referrals from the same sources as Speech and Language Therapists and cover the same age group 0-18 years.
Occupational Therapists work with children who have difficulty with:
- Self-care skills such as dressing
- Fine motor skills
- Visual perceptual skills
- Hand writing
- Planning and organisation
- Visual attention
- Dyspraxia
- General global delay
The Occupational Therapist carries out an initial assessment to establish the child's needs and creates a programme to be carried out:
- On an individual basis in the clinic
- In a group, often in conjunction with a Speech and Language Therapist
- A school programme carried out by a therapy assistant or by a member of the school staff.
- A home programme
- Regular review monitoring
The Occupational Therapist works closely with the Speech and Language Therapists and the Physiotherapist.
